Makers of the Modern Mind

Have you ever wondered what the Great Philosophers actually said? Did you ask yourself whether it was of any relevance?

Makers of the Modern Mind showcases five of the most influential European Philosophers of the past two hundred years – Karl Marx, Friedrich Nietzsche, Bertrand Russell, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and Michel Foucault – explaining clearly and concisely their meaning and their influence on the way Europeans think now for those who have not encountered Philosophy before.

Join Dr. Ian Jennings for five engaging evenings of five great minds.

  • Karl Marx (1818-1883), German theorist of revolutionary “scientific socialism”, inspiration for the most influential political movements of the twentieth century
  • Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900), German questioner of all values, best known for announcing the “Death of God”
  • Bertrand Russell (1872-1970), British logician, pacifist, popularizer, most influential twentieth century figure in English-language Philosophy
  • Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951), Austrian engineer, war hero, philosopher of language, protégé of Russell who caused his mentor to give up Philosophy
